All creatures deserve compassion.
The Bull Who Cried: Knowing it was about to be slaughtered, a bull in Hong Kong did what many people fail to realize or are skeptic about when it comes to animals - he showed emotion. As reported by a World News Source”, a group of workers walked a bull to a packaging factory. They were about to slaughter him to make steaks and beef stews. When they were close to the front door of the slaughter house, the sorrowful bull suddenly stopped going forward and knelt down on his two front legs. The bull… was all in tears. How did he know he was going to be killed before he entered the slaughter house? Mr. Shiu, a butcher recalled, "“When I saw this so-called stupid”animal sobbing and saw in his eyes fear and sorrow, I started trembling.” “I called the rest over to see. They were just as surprised. We kept pushing the bull forward, but he just didn't want to move and sat there crying.”" Billy Fong, owner of the packaging factory said, "People thought animals didn't cry like human beings. However that bull really sobbed like a baby.”" At that time, more than ten men witnessed the scene and they were all touched. Those who were responsible for slaughtering felt even more touched and cried as well. Other workers at the same slaughter house also came to see the crying bull. They were all shocked by this scene. Three of them said they would never forget this crying bull when they slaughtered other animals. With both man and animal crying, everyone knew that nobody could kill the bull. The problem was, what should they do with him? In the end, they raised funds to buy this crying bull and sent him to a temple, where the kind monks would take care of him for life. After the workers had made a decision, a miracle happened. A worker said, “When we promised this bull that we will not kill him, he started moving and followed us.” "How did he understand people's words?" Mr. Shiu said “ Believe it or not? This is real although it sounds unbelievable.” No doubt, this bull changed these butchers’ lives. Hopefully this story has in turn changed yours.

Strange is our situation here on Earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why, yet sometimes seeming to divine a purpose. From the standpoint of daily life, however, there is one thing we do know: that man is here for the sake of other men - above all for those upon whose smiles and well-being our own happiness depends.

He who gives himself up to the Self that is God is the most excellent devotee. Giving one’s self up to God means remaining constantly in the Self without giving room for the rise of any thoughts other than that of the Self. Whatever burdens are thrown on God, He bears them. Since the supreme power of God makes all things move, why should we, without submitting ourselves to it, constantly worry ourselves with thoughts as to what should be done and how, and what should not be done and how not? We know that the train carries all loads, so after getting on it why should we carry our small luggage on our head to our discomfort, instead of putting it down in the train and feeling at ease?

Question.: It is said in some books that one should cultivate all the good or divine qualities in order to prepare oneself for Self-realization.

Bhagavan : All good or divine qualities are included in spiritual knowledge and all bad or demoniac qualities are included in ignorance. When knowledge comes, ignorance goes and all the divine qualities appear automatically. If a man is Self-realized he cannot tell a lie or commit a sin or do anything wrong.

It is no doubt said in some books that one should cultivate one virtue after another and thus prepare for ultimate realization, but for those who follow the jnana marga (path of knowledge) Self-enquiry is quite enough for acquiring all the divine qualities, they need not do anything else

"You must know that there is no end to the incarnations that God takes. He has come down on countless occasions. Sometimes He comes with a part of His glory, sometimes for a particular task, sometimes to transform an entire era of time, an entire continent of space, sometimes with a fuller equipment of splendour. The drama enacted by the Lord and the devotees drawn towards Him is the subject matter of Bhagavatha (Stories on the Glory of God). Listening to these stories promotes the realization of God. Many sages have testified to its efficacy and extolled the Glory of God, and they helped to preserve it for posterity."

There is nothing external which is not also internal. The mind is all. If the mind is active even solitude becomes like a market place. There is no use closing your eyes. Close the mental eye and all will be right. The world is not external to you. The good persons will not care to make plans previous to their actions. Why so? For God who has sent us into the world has His own plan and that will certainly work itself out.

The beauty of a sparkling star filled sky,

A ruby red rose opening in bloom,

A radiant ruddy roseate dawn ,

Fill one with awe, and pose the question why?

Beauty ravishes and destroys men's gloom,

A stepping stone to God, and why we're born,

To love the creator of such beauty,

Then devotion becomes a pleasant duty.

The point is this: It's not what you say. It's not what you proclaim. It's what's deep, deep, deep in your heart that determines what happens to you. It's not reading books, it's not studying, it's not going to classes. It's sitting by yourself, becoming quiet, going deeper and deeper within yourself. Transcending your mind and your body until something happens.

A man searching for spirit-treasure
cannot find it, so he is praying.

A voice inside says, You were given
the intuition to shoot an arrow
and then to dig where it landed,
but you shot with all your archery skill.

You were told to draw the bow
with only a fraction of your ability.

What you are looking for
is nearer than the big vein
on your neck. Let the arrow drop.

Do not exhaust yourself
like the philosophers who strain to shoot
the high arcs of their thought-arrows.

The more skill you use,
the farther you will be
from what your deepest love wants.

Silence where no thoughts exist, is the real state of Realisation. The 'I' is a distortion of this state of quietude, being a movement, a wave in the ocean of stillness.

This desire to be free has arisen in a very few people. Free in this life. This year. This month. Now. This desire will decide. Like a moth who falls in love with the flame and rushes toward it without any delay. No holding on or holding back along the way. How much time to become flame itself? Going toward the flame is the decision to be free -- going toward the Atman.

The Atman consumes you, giving you eternal existence, eternal consciousness, and eternal bliss. And nobody knows it. Everyone is searching outside through the senses. Whatever you see, wherever you see name and form, it is not true. These names and forms will never give you peace or love. Whatever you see, feel, or experience through pleasurable sense objects ultimately will leave you hungry.

So this is the decision and the discernment. With this discernment, this discrimination, a few will decide "I want to be free." They will find a teacher. The teacher is within you. The satguru is within you. Your desire for freedom is going toward that satguru, that Brahman.
