The one who wishes to escape from doubt
Should be attentive and alert;
Looking at mind and body both,
He should see the causes and the origins.

One should not imagine oneself to be one with the eye or independent of it or the owner of it. The same with the ear and all the other sense, including the mind. Nor should one imagine oneself to be identical with the world or contained in it or independent of it or the owner of it.

In this way, free from imagining, one no longer clings to the things of the world. When one no longer clings, there is no more agitation, insecurity, and worry. Being no longer worried, one can reach into the depths of oneself and understand that where there has been loss there is now fulfillment.

That people are unknowing does not mean that they are unknowing like cows or goats. Even ignorant people look for a pathway to reality. But, searching for it, they often misunderstand what they encounter. They pursue names and categories instead of going beyond the name to that which is real.

He who gives away shall have real gain. He who subdues himself shall be free; he shall cease to be a slave of passions. The righteous man casts off evil, and by rooting out lust, bitterness, and illusion do we reach Nirvana.

Moghavan came to the Buddha. "I have come to you with a question, great sage. i am afraid of death. Is there any way to look upon the world so as not to be seen by the king of death?"
"Look upon the world as empty." the Buddha replied. "This is the way to overcome death. Cease thinking of yourself as an entity that really exists. If you look on the world in this way, you will never be seen by the king of death."

Whatever an enemy might do
to an enemy,
or a foe to a foe,
the ill-directed mind
can do to you
even worse.

Whatever a mother, father
or other kinsman
might do for you,
the well-directed mind
can do for you
even better.

This contemplation is your teacher: If your words and actions are likely to lead to harm and suffering, abandon them. If your words and actions are likely to lead to the welfare and benefit of all, cultivate them.

'Ariyaparyesana Sutta. Majjhima Nikaya.'

Buddhas declaration after attaining 'abhisambodhi' * :

'Subdued have I all, all-knowing I now.
Unattached to all things, and abandoning all.
Finally freed on the destruction of all craving,
Knowing it myself, whom else should I credit ?
There is no teacher of mine, nor is one like me;
There is none to rival me in the world of men and gods;
Truly entitled to honour am I, a teacher unexcelled.
Alone am I a Supreme Buddha, placid and tranquill,
To found the kingdom of righteousness, I proceed to Kasi's capital,
Beating the drum of immortality in the world enveloped by darkness.'

* - abhisambodhi:Perfect understanding, infallible knowledge, the highest enlightenment.

Devaputra, when the sun rises, it is not dismayed by the fact that some men are blind nor by the mountain shadows that it is unable to dispel. No, it sheds light on all that can be illuminated. In the same way, when Bodhisattvas appear for the sake of beings, they are not dismayed by the fact that some are wild and hostile. They bring to maturity and liberate all those who are capable of Liberation.

The Sage does not wash sins away with water,
Nor wipe away the pain of beings with his hands.
His realization he does not transfer to others.
He frees by showing them the peace of ultimate reality.

Monks, any desire-passion with regard to the eye is a defilement of the mind. Any desire-passion with regard to the ear... the nose... the tongue... the body... the intellect is a defilement of the mind. When, with regard to these six bases, the defilements of awareness are abandoned, then the mind is inclined to renunciation. The mind fostered by renunciation feels malleable for the direct knowing of those qualities worth realizing.

Monks, in the world with its devas, Mara and Brahma, in this generation with its ascetics and brahmins, devas and humans, whatever is seen, heard, sensed and cognized, attained, searched into, pondered over by the mind—all that is fully understood by the Tathagata. That is why he is called the Tathagata.

Live in joy,
In love,
Even among those who hate.

Live in joy,
In health,
Even among the afflicted.

Live in joy,
in peace,
Even among the troubled.

Look within.
Be still.
Free from fear and attachment,
Know the sweet joy of the way.

A poor man asked the Buddha,

“Why am I so poor?”

The Buddha said, “you do not learn to give.”

So the poor man said, “If I’m not having anything?”

Buddha said: “You have a few things,

The Face, which can give a smile;

Mouth: you can praise or comfort others;

The Heart: it can open up to others;

Eyes: who can look the other with the eyes of goodness;

Body: which can be used to help others.”

So, actually we are not poor at all, poverty of spirit is the real poverty.
