I was undeceived, that is all. I used to create a world and populate it. Now I don't do it any more. [Now I live] in the void beyond being and non-being, beyond consciousness. This void is also fullness; do not pity me. The mind ceased producing events. The ancient and ceaseless search stopped - I wanted nothing, expected nothing, accepted nothing as my own. There was no "me" left to strive for. Even the bare "I am" faded away. The other thing that I noticed was that I lost all my habitual certainties. Earlier I was sure of so many things, now I am sure of nothing. But I feel that I have lost nothing by not knowing, because all my knowledge was false. My not knowing was in itself knowledge of the fact that all knowledge is ignorance, that "I do not know" is the only true statement the mind can make.

When you put a donut in boiling water, a lot of bubbles will come out until all of the moisture in the donut is gone. It also makes a lot of noise, doesn't it? Finally, all is silent and the donut is ready. The silent condition of mind which comes about through a life of meditation is called peace. Meditation is like boiling the oil. It will make everything in the mind come out. Only then will peace be achieved.

After blowing his nose, the Maharaj said that, when blowing your nose, if a little bit of the mucus gets on your hand, you don't look at it and cling to it or take pride in it as "yours"; so also, if one were to realize that one's body came from a bit of mucus-like sperm, one would not cling to it as "myself"!

Q: Please tell me which road to self-realisation is the shortest.
M: No way is short or long, but some people are more in earnest and some are less. I can tell you about myself. I was a simple man, but I trusted my Guru. What he told me to do, I did. He told me to concentrate on 'I am' -- I did. He told me that I am beyond all perceivables and conceivables -- I believed. I gave him my heart and soul, my entire attention and the whole of my spare time (I had to work to keep my family alive). As a result of faith and earnest application, I realised my self (swarupa) within three years.
You may choose any way that suits you; your earnestness will determine the rate of progress.

Consciousness is the sense of knowingness ‘I am’ without words, and it appeared unknowingly and unsolicited. Only in the realm of knowingness ‘I am’ – the consciousness – can a world be, and so also an experience. Hold on to this knowingness ‘I am’ and the fount of knowledge will well up within you, revealing the mystery of the Universe; of your body and psyche; of the play of the five elements, the three ‘gunas’ and ‘prakriti-purusha’; and of everything else. In the process of this revelation, your individualistic personality confined to the body shall expand into the manifested universe, and it will be realized that you permeate and embrace the entire cosmos as your ‘body’ only. This is known as the ‘Pure Superknowledge’ – ‘Shuddhavijnana’.

Some people are in the habit of arguing with the guru and don't meditate. They don't realize. Just as children don't offer resistance to growth, they naturally grow, similarly, a spiritual seeker doesn't offer resistance to the guru's instruction and meditates on that and then he realizes. It is "intelligent" people who offer resistance to the guru. The simple ones don't offer resistance to their guru. Some people don't allow the knowledge to stabilize, they go on arguing, they use their intellect to [try to] realize the Self, which is of no use. Many people go on collecting knowledge in different places but never let it stabilize and so do not realize
