There is no process to become silent. To disturb your mind you need process, but to stay silent there is no process. Stay in satsang, stay quiet, always have love with your own Self. You are not to win it by any attempt or effort. Simply stay quiet. If any thought rises, simply find out where it came from.

If you know you are bound you are no longer bound because by knowing the bondage you separate yourself from it, you objectify it. With this release, the 'I' that was bound pours into Consciousness like a river pours into the ocean.

Allowing The Diminishment of the Ego
Excerpt from A New Earth

The ego is always on guard against any kind of perceived diminishment. Automatic ego-repair mechanisms come into effect to restore the mental form of “me.” When someone blames or criticizes me, that ego is a diminishment of self, and it will immediately attempt to repair its diminished sense of self through self-justification, defense, or blaming. Whether the other person is right or wrong is irrelevant to the ego. It is much more interested in self-preservation than in the truth. This is the preservation of the psychological form of “me.” Even such a normal thing as shouting something back when another driver calls you “idiot” is an automatic and unconscious ego-repair mechanism. One of the most common ego-repair mechanisms is anger, which causes temporary but huge ego inflation. All repair mechanisms make perfect sense to the ego but are actually dysfunctional. Those that are most extreme in their dysfunction are physical violence and self-delusion in the form of grandiose fantasies.

A powerful spiritual practice is consciously to allow the diminishment of ego when it happens without attempting to restore it. I recommend that you experiment with this from time to time. For example, when someone criticizes you, blames you, or calls you names, instead of immediately retaliating or defending yourself – do nothing. Allow the self-image to remain diminished and become alert to what that feels like deep inside you. For a few seconds, it may feel uncomfortable, as if you had shrunk in size. Then you may feel an inner spaciousness that feels intensely alive. You haven’t diminished at all. In fact, you have expanded. You may then come to an amazing realization: When you are seemingly diminished in some way and remain in absolute non-reaction, not just externally but also internally, you realize that nothing real has been diminished, that through becoming “less,” you become more. When you no longer defend or attempt to strengthen the form of yourself, you step out of identification with form, with mental self-image. Through becoming less (in the ego’s perception), you in fact undergo an expansion and make room for Being to come forward. True power, who you are beyond form, can shine through the apparent weakened form. This is what Jesus means when he says “Deny yourself” or “Turn the other cheek.”

Ultimately nothing is mine or yours, everything is ours. Just be one with yourself and you will be one with all, at home in the entire universe.

The dreams are not equal, but the dreamer is one. I am the insect, I am the poet - in dream. But in reality I am neither. I am beyond all dreams. I am the light in which all dreams appear and disappear. I am both inside and outside the dream. Just as a man having a headache knows the ache and also knows that he is not the ache, so do I know the dream, myself dreaming and myself not dreaming - all at the same time. I am what I am before, during and after the dream. But what I see in dream, I am not.

True meditation only begins when initially, using your discrimination, you cut off everything that does not go with the 'I am' - which includes the body-mind identification, which is the major obstacle. You should not have the feeling "I am so-and-so meditating" or "I am sitting at this particular place, in this posture, meditating on..." all these externalities must go. It should be only the knowledge 'I am' that should be meditating on itself. It is only when the purity of 'I am' is maintained in meditation that there is a chance that it will disappear.

The Guru is indeed very generous; see how stubbornly he persists with you. He knows your potential and also knows that at least theoretically you understand his teaching. By repeatedly hammering away at the teaching he wants you to get stabilized in the 'I am', for only then do you stand a chance to transcend it. He is constantly urging you or trying to push you into the 'Turiya' or fourth state. This he does tirelessly and relentlessly with anyone who comes to him and in whom he senses a genuine seeker. So, after expounding everything, he says: "Now that you have understood everything, just be."

See what you're doing now. You're thinking. That spoils it. Learn to stay without thought. Even if for a few seconds. It's hard isn't it. This is the reason you have to ask yourself, "To whom do these thoughts come?" It's only a modality to cause you to stop thinking.

All metaphysical discussion is profitless unless it causes us to seek within the Self for the true reality. All controversies about creation, the nature of the universe, evolution, the purpose of God, etc., are useless. They are not conducive to our true happiness. People try to find out about things which are outside of them before they try to find out 'Who am I?' Only by the latter means can happiness be gained.

As you remain unattached the core essence that is you, within your beingness will come forward and will begin to unfold exquisitely. Expect this to take place and rest assured it never will. Engage a commentary from mind and it all stops again.

Your sadhana (practice) consists in reminding oneself forcibly about one's pure 'being', of not being anything in particular. There is nothing wrong in the idea 'I am the body', but limiting oneself to one body is the mistake. The question 'Who am I?', has no answer. No experience can answer it, for the self is beyond experience. It has no answer in consciousness and therefore, helps to go beyond consciousness.

Go beyond. Neither consciousness nor the 'I am' at the centre of it are you. Your true being is entirely unselfconscious, completely free from all self-identification with whatever it may be - gross, subtle or transcendental.

Sometimes people say they can smell freedom. They say they fall more and more into the embrace of That which is unspeakable. And I have to acknowledge that this is not merely an intellectual thought or conviction. It is a deep inner thing; a felt experience in the Heart beyond words and thoughts, and yet I have to tell you that what you are falling into Is and was already here - unchangingly. It is what you already are and no distance is involved. Has anyone ever heard of a falling where there was no distance? This is the fall where there is no distance. It's the greatest fall; the falling away of delusion.

Very few beings on this planet will refer to themselves as pure consciousness, as emptiness. Have you heard anyone speaking like this? You cannot say things like this. You could get locked up for this, but even if they lock you up, they just think they’ve got you locked up. You, the pure Self, cannot be locked up at all.
What you find is that the whole world is inside the jail and you are out! They are in the prison of egoic identity feeling sorry for you being in the ‘prison’ of their imagination, but actually, you are free. Isn’t it funny?

Only when a human being becomes empty of ego does it become a vessel of the manifestation of the Supreme. When there is sufficient space made through the absence of the person, then the divine cannot hide. It must reveal itself as the Lord inside that form.

Even after awakening to one's real nature, some habits may still appear to be playing, but their effects are gradually being thinned out through the grace of the Self. Your inner being knows, somehow, that despite all of this fluctuation, all is well within the grand functioning. It intuitively knows all is a passing show. The old tendencies are being spring cleaned out, leaving one in a state of serene neutrality and joy. And therein lies one's unfading happiness. Even when the body is sick, one remains in the undisturbed state of the Self. You are waltzing with the Supreme but there is no 'two’, no separation, just a wholeness.
