You have brains in your head. You have feet in
your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction
you choose. You're on your own. And you know what
you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to
go

In dwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep to the simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. In governing, don't try to control. In work, do what you enjoy. In family life, be completely present.
Success is as dangerous as failure.Hope is as hollow as fear.
The control of the thinking machine is perfectly possible. And since nothing whatever happens to us outside our own brain; since nothing hurts us or gives us pleasure except within the brain, the supreme importance of being able to control what goes on in that mysterious brain is patent. Without the power to dictate to the brain its task and to ensure obedience - true life is impossible.
Evil is an extreme manifestation of human unconsciousness.
All true artists, whether they know it or not, create from a place of no-mind, from inner stillness.
Power over others is weakness disguised as strength. True power if within, and it is available to you now.
When you are present, you can allow the mind to be as it is without getting entangled in it. The mind in itself is a wonderful tool. Dysfunction sets in when you seek your self in it and mistake it for who you are.
Nothing ever happened in the past; it happened in the Now. Nothing will ever happen in the future; it will happen in the Now.
You find God the moment you realize that you don't need to seek God.
As far as inner transformation is concerned, there is nothing you can do about it. You cannot transform yourself, and you certainly cannot transform your partner or anybody else. All you can do is create a space for transformation to happen, for grace and love to enter.
Whenever anything negative happens to you, there is a deep lesson concealed within it, although you may not see it at the time.
The reason why the romantic love relationship is such an intense and universally sought-after experience is that it seems to offer liberation from a deep-seated state of fear, need, lack, and incompleteness that is part of the human condition in its unredeemed and unenlightened state.
Love is a state of Being. Your love is not outside; it is deep within you. You can never lose it, and it cannot leave you.
True communication is communion―the realization of oneness, which is love.
So the single most vital step on your journey toward enlightenment is this: learn to disidentify from your mind. Every time you create a gap in the stream of mind, the light of your consciousness grows stronger. One day you may catch yourself smiling at the voice in your head, as you would smile at the antics of a child. This means that you no longer take the content of your mind all that seriously, as your sense of self does not depend on it.
Enlightenment means rising above thought, not falling back to a level below thought, the level of an animal or a plant. In the enlightened state, you still use your thinking mind when needed, but in a much more focused and effective way than before.
You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold. That is how important you are.
I have lived with many Zen masters...all of them cats.
See if you can catch yourself complaining in either speech or thought, about a situation you find yourself in, what other people do or say, your surroundings, your life situation, even the weather. To complain is always nonacceptance of what is. It invariably carries an unconscious negative charge. When you complain, you make yourself a victim. Leave the situation or accept it. All else is madness.
[Relationships] do not cause pain and unhappiness. They bring out the pain and unhappiness that is already in you
Wherever you are, be there totally. If you find your here and now intolerable and it makes you unhappy, you have three options: remove yourself from the situation, change it, or accept it totally
Be at least as interested in what goes on inside you as what happens outside. If you get the inside right, the outside will fall into place.
Life is now. There was never a time when your life was not now, nor will there ever be
Pleasure is always derived from something outside you, whereas joy arises from within.
