The spiritual path can be a confusing journey, and whether one is going forwards, backwards, or totally off-track may not be obvious at all. Sadhguru answers a seeker’s question about “spiritual growth.”

Question: How do we known how much spiritual growth we have experienced? How do we know we are moving ahead on the spiritual path?

Sadhguru: In the initial phase, do not worry about whether you are moving ahead or backwards because your logical judgments will be very misleading. When you sit for your kriya in the morning, your legs will tell you that you are going backwards, and your family will also probably tell you to stop this nonsense. So in the initial phase, do not judge anything. It is always best to start a spiritual process with an unconditional commitment for a certain period of time. No so-called “spiritual growth” or benefit needs to happen to you. Just simply do the practice out of commitment for six months. After that, evaluate your life and see how peaceful, joyous and calm you are. What is it doing with you?

Even a man who has reached the peak within himself always takes time to evaluate himself, maybe not in the usual ways, but he does in many other ways. A certain incident happened in Gautama Buddha’s life. On a certain day, everybody came and bowed down to Buddha but one man came and spat on his face. Anandatheerta, Buddha’s close disciple who adored and worshiped him, got really angry. He said, “Give me permission, and I will teach this man a lesson. How could he spit on your face?” Gautama said, “No,” and thanked that man. He said, “Thank you very much for spitting on my face because this has given me an opportunity to see whether I am still capable of anger or not. I am very happy to know that I am not angry even if people spit on my face. That is very good. You helped me evaluate myself, and at the same time, you have also given Ananda that opportunity. So thank you very much. You have made both of us realize where we are right now.”

So give yourself to a certain period of sincere practice without expecting anything to happen. Don’t look for miracles to happen. The greatest miracle in life is life itself. The very process of life, that you are sitting here and breathing, is a miracle. If you do not appreciate this miracle, and are looking for some other miracle where some God will extend his hand out of the clouds and do something to you, then you are still very childish. You have not matured into an adult and you still believe in fairytales. So do not be in a hurry to evaluate your spiritual process; just allow it to sink in.

Generally in this tradition, the normal commitment that was demanded to start any spiritual process was twelve years. You simply say a mantra for twelve years and then look at what is happening with you. Even now, many spiritual sects in India follow this path. A Guru gives you a mantra to utter for twelve years, and then you come back to see your progress. But today, people have become so impatient with life. Even if we ask for twelve days of commitment, people have so many problems. People are complaining that it is too long!

Gautama Buddha had his own methods. If anybody came to him, there was absolutely no teaching, no spirituality or anything for two years – you would just hang around. If you could wait for two years, then a certain quality came and something else would happen to you. When he initiated you, it happened in a big way for you. But now, people are struggling to wait because the modern mind has become so impatient. Do not be in a hurry. Just stick to the practice, evaluate yourself periodically and see.

Recent research has shown that turmeric contains a compound known as curcumin, which has many medicinal benefits. Yogi and mystic, Sadhguru, lists out four remarkable health benefits of turmeric, and what just a pinch a day can do for us.

#1 Purificatory Health Benefits of Turmeric

Sadhguru: Turmeric purifies the blood and brings translucence to your energies. Turmeric not only works on the physiology, but also has a big impact on your energy system. It purifies the blood, body, and energy system. For external purification, just take a small pinch of turmeric, put it into a bucket of water and pour it over your body – you will see, the body will be vibrant and glowing

#2 Anti-phlegm Health Benefits of Turmeric

Those who suffer from cold related diseases and find their nostrils blocked every morning, will benefit a lot from the consumption of neem, pepper, honey and turmeric. Crush about 10 to 12 pepper corns roughly and soak them in a couple of spoons of honey overnight (about 8 to 12 hours). In the morning you consume this and just chew upon the pepper. Mixing some turmeric with the honey should also work. If you avoid all dairy products, your phlegm will go down naturally.

#3 Anti-cancer Health Benefits of Turmeric

Cancer is not a disease, it’s your own body working against you; certain cells have turned against you. Periodic cleansing of the body is good to prevent this from happening. Consumption of turmeric on an empty stomach is a very effective cleanser. This may not be effective after you get cancer, but otherwise, swallowing a marble-sized turmeric ball and neem ball, first thing in the morning acts as a great cleanser and takes away the cancerous cells in your body.

#4 Benefits of Turmeric for Yogic Sadhana

Everything you borrow from the earth, including your body, has a certain inertia. It is important to be conscious of this and to keep the inertia levels at the minimum. When we gauge whether your sadhana is working or not by looking at how much you sleep and how alert you are, we are checking how much inertia you generate. The inertia levels will increase if the body does not allow a certain amount of energy to enter the cellular level. Neem and turmeric as a combination dilate the cellular structure of the body in such a way that it allows energy to enter and fill up every crevice. Neem and turmeric are a physical support towards that, but sadhana itself does it too.

You can generate enormous energy by means other than sadhana, such as stimulants – like a strong cup of coffee or nicotine – but it will not dilate the cellular structure and allow the energy to enter the system to be stored and released over a long period of time. When, instead of being stored, energy finds expression right there, it becomes destructive – not only for the body, but also for the mind, for the activity that you perform, and for the world around you. When we generate energy in the body, it is important that it does not simply burst out but that we are able to hold it and release it by choice.

The consumption of neem and turmeric with tepid, light honey water is a wonderful way of cleansing and dilating the cellular structure in such a way that it is able to absorb energy. When you do sadhana, the dilation brings flexibility to the muscles. The flexibility helps you to slowly build the system into a more powerful possibility. You will feel it – as you do your asanas, the body will crackle with a different kind of energy.

No intelligent human being is ever 100% clear about how to act; he always weighs it. Only a fool or a fanatic is 100% clear. Whatever we do, our very existence, our eating, living, and breathing here is an injustice to some other life form, if you look at it from their point of view. If you eat, you kill. If you breathe, you kill. If you walk, you kill. So if you don’t want to do all that and you kill yourself, still you kill. No action in the world is 100% right or 100% wrong. You just have to consider the larger good that you create with your actions and perform them accordingly.

Oscar winning director Shekhar Kapur seeks answers about why we die, from yogi and mystic Sadhguru, as they explore the mechanics of life and death, and the process of dying.

~

Shekhar Kapur: Health and longevity are two things everybody talks about, but the messages that are coming across are quite diverse. So I have a question: when living beyond a certain age, is there something inherent in us that actually could keep us healthy or do we always need outside help from doctors and hospitals? If there was something inherent in us, then maybe I would believe that nature has an intention to keep us alive.

Sadhguru: If nature didn’t have an intention to keep you alive, you would be dead.

Shekhar Kapur: Yeah.

Sadhguru: Even now, you are alive not because of the medicine that you take or the hospital consultation and health check-ups that you have, but because nature still intends that you should live. It is because of the life process that you are living, not because of medicine. Medicine can play around a little bit. It cannot create life as such.

The thing is, this very body that you carry was created from within, isn’t it? You provided raw material from outside, but the creation process happened from within. So, obviously, the source of creation or the manufacturer of the body is within. Trying to fix health from outside is a very effortful process. If you keep access to the innermost core, health will be a natural phenomenon. Thinking that it is something that you have to manage from outside is a very wrong perception.

Shekhar Kapur: And if I’m perfectly healthy, why do we die?

Sadhguru: You must live healthy and you must die healthy. “So even if you are healthy, why do we die?” Health has got nothing to do with death. Death will happen when your life energies lose their vibrance. To hold onto this body, a life has to be in a certain level of reverberance. As you age, as your karmic substance wears out, the intensity of the life process becomes feeble. If it becomes feeble below a certain level of intensity, it will slip out. This is called dying of old age. Someone who is medically healthy may lie down in sleep and exit peacefully.

If the life energies are still vibrant and they are capable of living, but for some reason you broke the body either because you crashed your car or broke your heart or drank too much alcohol, in some way you made the body inhospitable for life, then also life leaves. This is an unnatural death. This has its own consequences.

Another way, which is a very rare occurrence, is, your life energies became so intense that the physical cannot hold it anymore. If you leave out of intensity, an intensity beyond physical nature, then we say, you have attained. This is called mahasamadhi. If life energies become overly intense, you cannot keep the body. If life energies become feeble, you cannot keep the body. Only if it is in a certain band of intensity you can hold on to the body.

Shekhar Kapur: You’re making a big distinction between the body and life, as if life is something else and that’s something that everyone struggles with…

Sadhguru: You tell me. Did you accumulate this body?

Shekhar Kapur: Yes, I did, by eating.

Sadhguru: So, I’ll ask you again the same question. Whatever you accumulate can be yours, cannot be you, isn’t it?

Shekhar Kapur: Yes. Correct.

Sadhguru: So, I’m definitely making a distinction between what is you and what is your body because your body is just an accumulation.

The life energy or prana, carries a huge amount of information. This information is called various names but traditionally, we call this karma. Karma means “action.” You can perform physical action, mental action, emotional action and energy action. You are performing all these four actions every moment of your life, awake and asleep. The residual impact of these actions is always being recorded, and a whole unconscious software develops. The life energy, the body, what you call as your mind, your chemistry, all of it is guided by a certain dimension of information. This past information of every single perception you have had, everything you have seen, heard, smelt, tasted and touched – everything that has gone into you – is recorded in your system. Most of this information that you carry within you is unconscious, and most of your software was created unconsciously. Whatever you can create unconsciously, you can also create consciously, but it would take a certain level of striving and application to do so.

Spiritual process essentially means we want to make all the things you created unconsciously, into a conscious process, because only if it happens consciously there is freedom. If it happens unconsciously, it is compulsiveness. The journey is from compulsiveness to consciousness, nothing else.

When a person dies, all the information – these are backup systems – that are on the chemical level, body level and mind level, are all dead. The only thing that leaves is the energy. This energy is concretized because of the information that it carries. If you take away all this information from the energy, it would just merge with the cosmos.

This is what we call as mukti. Mukti means we have found a way of shaving off all the information from this energy, which is your life right now. Then it will just merge. It has no form and shape anymore. The whole effort of the spiritual process is to get to that place, where you shed all the information and when you exit, you just merge – end game!

Questioner: Namaste Sadhguru. My name is Dipesh, I’m coming from Kerala. I have been reading books – almost h… hundred books about spirituality. I… I like talking spirituality, I like philosophizing about spirituality, about Buddhism, anapanasati yoga –everything, but when coming to practice I postpone it. How to avoid laziness?

Sadhguru: So you cannot think about it, you cannot talk about it because whatever you think and talk about is not spirituality. It’s not even good literature. Really, believe me, there’s better literature in the world than spiritual books. If hundred books that you read did not create enough thirst in you to do something about it, there is nothing spiritual about these books. If it created a longing within you that you couldn’t help doing something about it, then that book is okay – even that book is not spiritual; at least it’s inspirational. It inspired you enough to take a step. And a million words that you read are of no consequence. If you take one little step it’s worth all the scriptures on the planet

Epigenetics, a branch of biology which studies how a human being’s behaviors and life experiences impact their DNA, and therefore can be passed on from generation to generation, is being explored by scientists today. However, in the yogic perspective, the influence of the past goes way beyond our ancestors, to the very first life form on the planet. In this article, Sadhguru explains the meaning of karma, a term long used and misused in different contexts. Explaining how very deep rooted its influences are, he also shows a way to get a “handle” over the complex structure that it is.

Sadhguru: Karma means action or the imprint of action which remains within us. The actions that your father performed are working and kicking up within you not just in your situation, but within every cell in your body. It is not so easy to get rid of your parents! You may have noticed that when you were eighteen or twenty, you completely rebelled against your father or your mother, but by the time you are forty or forty-five, you begin to speak like them, act like them, and even look like them. That is a hopeless way to live because if this generation is going to behave, act, live and experience life just the way the previous generation did, this is a wasted generation. This generation should experience life in a way the previous generation never even imagined. I don’t mean you should do something crazy on the street, I mean the way you experience life can be completely altered. It can be taken to the next level of experience.

But karma is not just yours, your father’s or your grandfather’s. The first life form, that bacteria or virus, that single-celled creature’s karma is also acting up within you, even today. Even the kind of bacteria you have in your body carries a certain behavioral pattern depending upon what kind of bacteria your parents or grandparents had. So, all the grand ideas you have about yourself, all the grand ideas you have about your person are very false. This is why we told you, it is all maya, because the way things are playing within you is such that almost everything you do is controlled by past information.

If I tell you, “You don’t need to do anything, we will take care of you. Just sit and meditate twelve hours a day,” initially it may look like a great fortune, but after a month’s time, you will be going nuts. If you cross that madness, you will cross everything, but most people give up when the madness arises within them. They will freak and try to run away because it is not going to be easy. This is a primal cry of your father, your grandfather, your forefathers and the goddamn bacteria. Millions of lives, all of them will scream to find expression. They want to have their say. They will not let you go free just like that. You cannot ignore them because they throb in every cell in your body.

“Does it mean to say I am hopelessly entangled?” Entangled for sure, but not hopelessly. From being a pashupata – a composite expression of animal nature, starting from that single-celled animal to the highest one – there is a possibility of becoming a pashupati. “Pashu” means life, “pati” means the Lord, the Lord of all life – one can leave all this behind and transcend.

This must be understood, karma is not your enemy. Your unawareness of what is what, is your enemy. Karma is the memory of life. You are able to build this body the way it is built only because there is memory of life, right from that single-celled animal to every other form. The basis of your existence right now in the physical body is your karma. If all your karma is taken away, this moment you will shed your body. It is like pulling the plug on you. Karma is the glue, karma is that which has cemented you to the body.

You don’t have to change your body or your mind, what you need to do is find where the handle is. Right now, if you sit in the car, you seat-belt yourself. The seat-belt is a good thing, it could save your life. But suppose you seat-belt yourself in such a way that you cannot open it when you want to, this becomes your prison. When you get into the car, you close the door. It is a good thing. But suppose you got into the car and you cannot open the door, it is terrible. You just have to know where the handle is. Then, even if you have a mountain of karma, there is no problem.

The problem has come not because of karma, the problem has come because you got entangled in it, you got enmeshed in it. If a little distance comes between you and your body, between you and your mind, then whatever the karma, it has no impact on you. You can still make use of it to be embodied and live, you can still maintain a certain individual character but it does not become a binding, it becomes a stepping stone.

Sadhguru speaks about the subtlety of the spiritual path, and explains why some people may experience frustration in their quest for the Ultimate. He tells us how one can pursue spirituality without creating unnecessary difficulties for oneself.

"Spirituality is not difficult. It is just that there is a certain subtleness to it that people are unable to get. The hopelessness of it is that the very effort that you make to dissolve, is also karma. You will not grow unless you create a desire, “I want to grow, I want to reach this.” At the same time, if the desire goes on, that itself is karma – it goes on creating new karma.

However, if you can reach a state where you handle life with great involvement and intensity, and still don’t care a hoot about it, then it’s very easy. You must be deeply involved, you must do things like your life depends on it, but actually it should not matter at all. Whatever you do, it must be just the way the situation demands; nothing more, nothing less. The moment it matters to you, you become a vested interest. Whether it is for satisfaction, happiness, money, or because you want to go to heaven, the moment you do it with some purpose behind it, you become a vested interest. The moment you become a vested interest, there is no spirituality in you.

People talk about, “Don’t expect the fruit of the action,” and they misinterpret it as, “The result does not matter.” The result does matter. When we do something, we do it so that it works, isn’t it? When you perform some action, you think about it and constantly apply yourself so that it works. It is just that it personally does not matter. You neither gain nor do you lose from it. You do it if the situation needs it. If it is not necessary, you just roll back everything and sit quietly. Once you have this freedom within you, then, karma becomes a conscious thing.

If you have to know a very deep sense of involvement with something that does not mean anything to you, it can happen only when there is no fear of entanglement. For this to happen, either you must be crazy, or you must be drunk with blissfulness, or you must have fallen so in love with somebody that nothing matters. Without one of these three qualities, it is difficult to do something with great intensity and still not be bothered about what it is."

Question: Namaskaram. During the practice of kriyas, there is always this challenge of thoughts entering my mind. I’m trying hard to keep them away and focus on the kriya, but this doesn’t really work. How to control your thoughts during meditation or kriyas?

Sadhguru: You are focusing hard and trying to banish the thoughts, and they are not going away. This is the nature of the mind, but it looks like you are very prejudiced against your mind. When you are doing your kriya or your meditation, you don’t mind if your kidneys or your lungs are functioning or if your heart is beating. You don’t mind all the other processes in the body – only your brain should not function! The notion that if you do something spiritual, your brain should stop working is simply wrong.

Your thoughts are just the smells – either fragrance or stink – of the stuff that you carry within you. Nothing new arises. If you don’t let the stuff that you have gathered go into your brain, your brain will work in phenomenal ways. It can do things that you have not imagined possible. But it is full of your own rubbish right now – that is the struggle; that is why you want it to stop. Instead of the brain being the crown of your life, it has become the garbage bin of your life. Physically, it is the crown. In the symbolism of yoga, Sahasrar is a lotus with one thousand petals – “one thousand” not as a literal number, but as something innumerable. If your brain was rooted in the existential process, innumerable possibilities would open up. But right now, your brain is only rooted in the mental process.

Now you may say, “Sadhguru, that’s exactly what I am saying – how to control thoughts?” No, that is not what you are saying. You don’t want your thoughts to interfere with your illusory idea of enlightenment. Illusory because enlightenment is not something that you cause. You don’t cause light, but you see light. When the sun rises in the morning, you do not cause the light, but you are able to see it if your eyes are open. If you cause light – let’s say with a torch or by any other means – you always have to keep it up, and there will always be the fear that it will go out.

The difference between education and enlightenment is just this – you can educate yourself with 1, 10, or 1000 books, but still you will run out of material at some point. Enlightenment means you did not educate yourself with books – you are simply there; it is an endless process. Is there something particular that an enlightened person knows that you do not know? No. Is there something particular that an enlightened person does not know? No. I am not playing with words. This is the nature of existence.

What is happening in your liver and kidneys is a lot more complex than the thoughts that you generate. If the activity of your organs does not disturb you, why do your thoughts disturb you? Because you think you are your thoughts. When you think, you don’t see it as “my thoughts” – you say, “I think so.” Because you are deeply identified with your thought process, it is bothering you. You are not identified with your kidneys unless you have a kidney problem. If they function normally, most people do not even feel if they have kidneys or not. Kidneys are a device – they are functioning so efficiently we can forget about them.

You are always conscious of that which does not function efficiently. You know, I am making a statement about your brain. If it was functioning smoothly, you would not notice your brain, like you do not notice your kidneys or liver. If you were not identified with it, you would not notice it. If you are identified with it, it is a big deal. You are not your thought. You are identified with something that you are not. Once you are identified with something that you are not, you cannot stop the mental process – it will just go on endlessly. It is like when you have eaten bad food, gas will develop. You cannot stop it with a wine cork. You just have to stop eating bad food.

The bad food for you is right now, you believe yourself to be things that you are not. The moment you identify yourself with your body, your thoughts, your emotions, and many other things around you, the thought process will be endless. People think that is how the mind is. That is not how mind is, or rather, that it is not how it is supposed to be. If you constantly had a stomach ache, you would think that is how the stomach is.

The brain is much more sensitive than other organs. All other organs have specific functions, but the brain has a few specific functions, and the rest is left open. This is the problem of being human. Any other creature has specific goals, nothing more. They must eat well, grow well, reproduce well, and die one day – everything is set. Only a human being is wondering, “Why am I here? What is the nature of my life? Where do I come from? Where do I go?” All these questions only come up when you are human. The difference between a human being and any other creature is that in human beings, the cerebral cortex and other parts of the brain have flowered.

You complain about a new possibility that has arisen within you, a possibility that an ape, a monkey, or any other creature does not have. Do not treat a possibility as a problem. It is not a problem – it is a possibility that you can sit here and think of something that is 1000 miles away, 1000 years ago, 1000 years later, or whatever else. It has become a problem for a lot of people because they have never looked at the user manual.

First stop giving the brain bad food – feed it with Truth, not untruth. We are in the hands of Truth. We don’t have Truth in our hands. We have a complex bunch of lies in our hands. If you keep down all the things that you believe, all the things that you have made up, you will see, if you sit here, your mind could be simply empty. If it is empty, what is the use? The use is it can reflect the whole cosmos. Otherwise, it is quite comic. This is the choice – you can make your mind into a comical place or a cosmic space. For it to become a cosmic space, you must keep all the lies down – then Truth will flourish by its own nature. The absence of falsehood is Truth.

Only a fool will talk about what Truth is. One who knows will only talk around it, because you cannot talk about it. You can only define and describe that which has some kind of substance, that which has measurable parameters, or boundaries. If something has no boundaries and no parameters, you cannot talk about it. The whole work is about clearing the mess you have created, not about establishing Truth. There is no need to establish Truth. It is in the lap of Truth that all of us exist.

I will not ask you to confess what thoughts you are getting while doing your kriya. Do not be concerned about your thoughts. Above all, do not try to stop them. Let them happen like the activity of your kidneys is happening. Not everything in your kidneys is clean. Not everything in your brain is clean either – what is your problem?

Do not discriminate between good and bad thoughts. There are no good and bad thoughts – there are just thoughts. Your thoughts depend upon what kind of garbage you have – that kind of smell will emanate. Today’s smell depends on yesterday’s garbage. It depends on what you threw into the bin. If you watched a movie yesterday or something else happened, today, that will come back to you again. Do not judge your thoughts – it is just rubbish. First of all, they are not even real. A thought means that it is not real. The largest part of who you are is unconscious right now. You are making things up all the time. If you want to know the nature of creation and the Creator, it is important that you do not make things up, which is what you are trying to do right now. Trying to make things up is a hopeless method.

If you try to maintain a continuous stream of thoughts while doing your kriya, suddenly, they will not come. Suddenly, you will get constipated in the head. Do not bother about your thoughts or about how to control your thoughts. Depending upon what is there inside today, thoughts will flow. There is no significance or consequence to this. You just need to do the kriya – do not do the thoughts. Whether you try to remove them or to have continuous thoughts or 108 sacred thoughts during meditation, you are still trying to do the thoughts. The kidneys will do their own thing; the liver will do its own thing; the brain will do its own thing; you do the kriya – that is all.

'Sadhguru answers a few questions on how youth are making a lot more money in this generation, leading to a lot of disenchantment.'

Question: There are people who start making money early in their lives. By 20 or 21, they are earning huge sums of money in big companies. But then, after some time, they feel that something is lacking in their lives; there is an empty feeling.

Sadhguru: What usually happened to a lot of people when they were 60, is happening to them when they are 24. They must be glad. Realization is coming soon. Otherwise they would have wasted their whole life and only then realized it.

There is only life. If you feel life is superficial, it means you are living superficially.
The reason why previous generations did not realize this is because by the time they were 18, they were married. By 24, they had four children. The whole life was a struggle – getting four children educated and married. Then grandchildren came. And before you realized what happened, they put mud on you – it was your funeral.

Now, you are 25 and you are still not married. You got the money, you have seen the world and you know it doesn’t mean anything. It is good that people are realizing it early.

Question: So at that point of time, what do they have to do? What path should they take?

Sadhguru: There are no two paths. There is only life. If you feel life is superficial, it means you are living superficially. You just have to go a little deeper into life. Is there some other way? “No, I want to die”, “To be or not to be.” Death is also a part of your life. There is nothing else you can do here except life. The only choice you have is either to do it superficially or in a profound manner. Choose. What other choice is there?

Question: But here comes another question: How to choose the right Guru? A lot of people don’t know whom to believe.

Sadhguru: Don’t believe anyone. If you come to Isha, I’ll give you something simple. Work with it. If nothing happens to you, you leave. If it works, take the next step. Or if something ignites within you, I don’t have to tell you anything, anyway you will do what you have to do. Till then, just go one step at a time. If something happens, you stay on and take many more steps.

Question: But how do we know the goal?

Sadhguru: Do you see that you are living with certain limitations? The only goal is to become free from that. What you do on the way is according to your capability. Maybe you will sweep the floor or manage something or run a nation or whatever – that’s just on the way. This is the significance of being in India: Whether you are a king or an illiterate peasant or a great scholar, all of us are aspiring only for the same goal – mukti. Someone is not superior because he is a king. We are all going to the same place. Who goes there quicker is the only question.

Rama tried to manage the situations in his life, but he could not always do that. He lived in difficult times and things went out of control, but the important thing is that he always conducted himself gracefully. This is the fundamental essence of becoming spiritual. If you want the right kind of ambiance for your being to flower into a beautiful fragrant flower, you must constantly create an atmosphere of grace.

' Of Dogs and Cats
and Pigs and Rats '

Of dogs and cats and pigs
and rats, who is supreme?

There are those who bark and bite
their tools are made of fear
Fear keeps everything in order
The virtues of fear are too many to list
It can even render you short of breath
and short of everything that is life
Fear is living death

There are those who puss and purr
Sleek and soft full of inducements
For whom life is a seduction
A sweet poison of the marketmen
Tying you up not in chains but in silks
Entangling you in ways
That does not leave you any way

There are those who grunt
and of course stink. To get
the right kind of grunt you
have to bend and snivel and give
something to ingest. Their official sty
is a place you dread but there
is no way you can avoid this slime

There are those who nibble
at all that is yours. There is no
sanctity for your bridal dress or
your long departed grandmother’s
What you worship they will work at
Nothing remains unexplored, they could
even invade your soul. O’ soulmates

Of dogs and cats and pigs and rats
O’ the evolutionary haste.

Love & Grace,

Sadhguru.
