The ego says, 'I shouldn't have to suffer,' and that thought makes you suffer so much more. It is. a distortion of the truth, which is always paradoxical. The truth is that you need to say yes to suffering before you can transcend it.
The greatest achievement of humanity is not its works of art, science, or technology, but the recognition of its own dysfunction.
Words reduce reality to something the human mind can grasp, which isn't very much.
It is the nature of the world of form that nothing stays fixed for very long - and so it starts to fall apart again. Forms dissolve; new forms arise. Watch the clouds. They will teach you about the world of form.
How you do what you do is more important than what you do. The 'how' refers to the underlining state of consciousness.
Suffering is necessary, until you realize it is unnecessary.
Those who have not found their true wealth, which is the radiant joy of Being and the deep, unshakable peace that comes with it, are beggars, even if they have great material wealth. They are looking outside for scraps of pleasure or fulfillment, for validation, security, or love, while they have a treasure within that not only includes all those things but is infinitely greater than anything the world can offer.
Many people who are going through the early stages of the awakening process are no longer certain what their outer purpose is. What drives the world no longer drives them. Seeing the madness of our civilization so clearly, they feel somewhat alienated from the culture around them. Some feel that they inhabit a no-man's land between two worlds. They are no longer run by the ego, yet the arising awareness has not yet become fully integrated into their lives. Inner and outer purpose have not merged.
It is inner stillness that will save and transform the world.
If you had not suffered as you have, there would be no depth to you as a human being, no humility, no compassion.
Time isn’t precious at all, because it is an illusion.
Give up defining yourself - to yourself or to others. You won't die. You will come to life. And don't be concerned with how others define you. When they define you, they are limiting themselves, so it's their problem. Whenever you interact with people, don't be there primarily as a function or a role, but as the field of conscious Presence. You can only lose something that you have, but you cannot lose something that you are.
Beyond the beauty of the external forms, there is more here: something that cannot be named, something ineffable, some deep, inner, holy essence. Whenever and wherever there is beauty, this inner essence shines through somehow. It only reveals itself to you when you are present.
The pollution of the planet is only an outward reflection of an inner psychic pollution: millions of unconscious individuals not taking responsibility for their inner space.
When you say, 'I enjoy doing this or that', it is really a misperception. It makes it appear that the joy comes from what you do, but that is not the case. Joy does not come from what you do, it flows into what you do and thus into this world from deep within you.
You are here to enable the divine purpose of the universe to unfold. That is how important you are!
True intelligence operates silently. Stillness is where creativity and solutions to problems are found.
The moment that judgment stops through acceptance of what is, you are free of the mind.
The best indicator of your level of consciousness is how you deal with life’s challenges when they come. Through those challenges, an already unconscious person tends to become more deeply unconscious, and a conscious person more intensely conscious. You can use a challenge to awaken you, or you can allow it to pull you into even deeper sleep.
If your mind carries a heavy burden of past, you will experience more of the same. The past perpetuates itself through lack of presence. The quality of your consciousness at this moment is what shapes the future.
Stillness is your essential nature. What is stillness? The inner space or awareness in which the words on this page are being perceived and become thoughts. Without that awareness, there would be no perception, no thoughts, no world. You are that awareness, disguised as a person.
Don't let a mad world tell you that success is anything other than a successful present moment.
Nothing out there will ever satisfy you except temporarily and superficially, but you may need to experience many disappointments before you realize that truth.
No relationship can thrive without the sense of spaciousness that comes with stillness. Meditate or spend silent time in nature together. When going for a walk or sitting in the car or at home, become comfortable with being in stillness together. Stillness cannot and need not be created. Just be receptive to the stillness that is already there, but is usually obscured by mental noise.
All cravings are the mind seeking salvation or fulfillment in external things and in the future as a substitute for the joy of Being.
Notice how often your attention is in the past or future. Don’t judge or analyze what you observe. Watch the thought, feel the emotion, observe the reaction. Don’t make a personal problem out of them. You will then feel something more powerful than any of those things you observe: the still observing presence itself behind the content of your mind, the silent watcher.
